SHIPPING POLLUTION MORE THAN A DROP IN THE OCEAN

A US scientific study is pointing the finger at the global shipping industry as a major contributory to climate change. The ships running under flags of convenience have been exposed in reports like the Ships of Shame inquiry as being unsafe for crews and polluting the ocean. Now scientists have found every year commercial ships emit 1 million kilograms of particle pollution into the air. The interesting with ship is it actually burning really low-quality fuels. While, the effect the pollution from the ships are small enough to be breathed in to human lungs and they have been shown by epidemiological studies to be associated with increased incidences of breathing illnesses, heart illnesses and even premature death.

ENGINEERS FIND WAY TO BUILD A BETTER BATTERY

At Chicago, U.S engineers have found a way to make lithium batteries that a smaller, lighter, longer lasting and capable of recharging in seconds. They believe the quick-charging batteries could open up new applications, including better batteries for electric cars. After five years, ceder and colleagues discovered that lithium ions travel through tunnels accessed from the surface of the material. Using their new processing technique, the team made a small battery that could be full charged in 10 to 20 second. Ceder thinks the material could lead to smaller, lighter batteries because less material is needed for the same result.
