GOOGLE TAKING A STEP INTO POWER METERING
The article showed Google taking a step into power metering. Google is one of a number of companies devising ways to control the demands for electric power as an alternative to building more power plants. Consumers can use to track energy use in their home or business. It is counting on others to build devices to feed data into PowerMeter technology. Therefore, while it hopes to begin introducing the service in the next few months, it has not yet lined up hardware manufacturers.
“Smart grid” is the new buzz phrase in the electric business, encompassing a variety of approaches that involve more communication between utility operators and components of the grid, including transformers, power lines, customer meters and even home appliances like dishwashers. It also might be useful for plug-in hybrid cars, which will draw significant amounts of energy, perhaps doubling the electric demand of a small household.

UNITED TECHNOLOGIES REITERATES GUIDANCE
The article showed United Technologies reiterates guidance. CFO Greg Hayes told analysts at a conference in New York that it’s too early to reduce the company’s outlook. The economic drag, uncertainty in defense spending and low pension returns appear to have done little to deter the defense industry’s favorable outlook for 2009. Besides that, jet engine maker Pratt & Whitney is hurting from troubles in the airline industry, where traffic is declining.
